TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE, the junior brand of TSUTAYA BOOKS, Japan’s renowned bookstore chain, marked a significant moment in its expansion journey with the successful grand opening of the first store in Southeast Asia at Intermark Mall, in Kuala Lumpur.

The event, graced by the esteemed presence of His Excellency Mr. Katsuhiko Takahashi, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, was a testament to the enduring friendship between Japan and Malaysia and the brand’s commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of Malaysia.

The new TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE, situated in the heart of the city, offers a more casual and smaller-sized store experience compared to the premium brand, TSUTAYA BOOKS in Pavilion Bukit Jalil. TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE boasts a wide selection of books, especially paperbacks, with a prominent curation of titles in humanities and workstyle. Additionally, TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE features an extensive stationery collection in a warm and cosy terracotta tone, catering to the bustling office clientele of Intermark Mall. and an in-house cafe that serves a variety of beverages, including freshly brewed coffee and their signature lemonade.

Every TSUTAYA store has a unique design, inspired by its surroundings and to amplify the customer experience. TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE INTERMARK MALL showcases parallel oak wood shelves giving it a more spacious feel and a sense of volume, a combination of cool tones at the storefront and a warm brown tone inspired by Malaysian soil at the back for an illusion of depth. The in-store café greets you at the entrance, encouraging slow living amidst a busy lifestyle, where book shoppers can enjoy a variety of beverages, including freshly brewed coffee and the signature lemonade. Touches of exposed concrete emit a casual feel.

This marks the first TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE in Southeast Asia, a significant milestone for the brand, which now boasts a total of 47 stores worldwide. Within this count, 29 are located in Japan, with the remaining 18 spread across Asia, making Malaysia the 18th location to house a TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE, marking its entry into Southeast Asia. The store at Intermark Mall covers an area of 6,362 square feet.
