Kila Doll Sheet Masks

About 2 months ago, I spotted the Kila Doll masks at Guardian, MidValley. I think it must have been instore for only a week then. There are 5 varieties altogether not including the trial pack which includes one of each variety. Each variety comes in a box of 10 for RM39.90 while the trial pack is priced at RM19.90. I’ve only started using them this month when I got bored of using the My Beauty Diary masks from the Firming & Whitening Set.

The 1st thing that came to my mind was that it was a good thing there was a trial pack since I could try them all without having to spend RM199.50 in total but how effective was a trial pack going to be? Each mask promises a different result so we have the following:-

  1. Licorice & Job’s Tear Whitening Mask (Herbal Whitening for Sensitive Skin).
  2. Diamond Platinum Mask (Intensive Anti-Aging, Reduce Fine Lines & Wrinkles).
  3. Black Pearl Mask (Firming & Face Tightening).
  4. Hyaluronic Acid Mask (Intensive Moisturising, Brightening).
  5. Tranexamic Acid Whitening Mask (Intensive Whitening, Even Skin Tone, Spot Lightening).

Since the masks are from Taiwan, you can expect the masks to be wrapped around a plastic sheet unlike Korean masks. I’ve noticed that is one of the main differences between Taiwanese and Korean sheet masks. Generally, there is an absence of a plastic sheet in Korean masks but somehow that doesn’t make them any cheaper. I wish!

Kila Doll masks are almost as thin as the newer version of My Beauty Diary masks but not quite. They aren’t as thick as the older My Beauty Diary masks but just not nearly as thin as the newer ones or those in MBD’s luxury range. There is quite a bit of serum in the Kila Doll masks, 25ml according to the product description.

The scent for each mask is a barely-there scent, hardly discernible and once you put it on, you won’t be able to smell much so if you dislike masks with scents, then these masks can be considered. The masks adhere very well to my face but then again, they should since they are made of 100% Japanese wood pulp fiber and designed to fit snugly and (I presume) allow the serum to penetrate more effectively into skin. It’s stated that the masks have a special cutting that is well-fitted in accordance to Asian face shapes.

And the verdict after using all 5 of the masks? They are no better and no worse than MBD masks in effectiveness. While they provide moisturisation and short-term brightness after use, they are good for 50 minutes’ usage unlike some MBD masks which I can leave on for well over an hour.

I am not at all tempted to purchase a box of 10 to find out whether they can really reduce fine lines and wrinkles, tighten pores, whiten intensively or provide anti-aging effects. I seriously doubt any sheet masks are able to do all that unless they are paired with proper and appropriate skincare.

In terms of pricing though, these masks are cheaper than your average sheet mask as they’re roughly RM4 each whether you purchase the trial box of 5 or a box of 10. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to check these out as they say that there’s minimum skin allergy issues due to the absence of non-woven wool fiber (please refer to their flyer which should be available next to the products at Guardian).
