Is it better to order a la carte or just choose a set menu for a CNY meal? Din Tai Fung and a lot of other restaurants have CNY set menus for 5/6/10 pax. DTF offers a CNY set menu for 6 or 10 pax. I made a booking at DTF The Gardens for Day 1 CNY a few days before CNY. Just as well as last night, there was a crowd outside that outlet. My friends arrived before me and although there were just 4 of us, I chose the set menu for 6pax. I find it more convenient that way rather than having to add up the cost of several dishes which in the end may end up more than the set menu which is RM488+ for 6pax.
Although DTF was packed to the brim, service was good and the 1st course, the Salmon Yu Sheng arrived within 10 minutes of ordering.

The Salmon Yu Sheng came in quite a generous portion and we really liked this because it tasted sweet, the vegetables were crisp and with 2 packets of crackers, it was more than enough for 4pax, eating a portion meant for 6pax.

At DTF, having Xiao Long Bao is a must and no meal there would be complete without their signature dish. When dipped in vinegar, this Xiao Long Bao is beyond compare in taste and quality.

Crispy on the exterior and moist inside, the Golden Prawns with Mayonnaise is easily one of DTF’s best dishes. There is enough mayo coating each prawn.

DTF’s Mushroom Dumplings taste best when paired with vinegar.

The fish fillets were cooked very well, not dry at all and so tender but taste wise, not my favourite dish of the night.

Everyone loved these pea sprouts with shimeji mushrooms. Pea sprouts are one of my favourite veges and I don’t even eat much veges, to be honest.

There’s no need to order white rice to go with the dishes as we get 2 plates of Shredded Meat Egg Fried Rice which is more than adequate.

Dessert is Soybean Rice Ball, the soybean itself is lovely as it isn’t sweet and it tastes like premium soybean (don’t ask me what “premium” here tastes like but I am a soybean fan so I know how to differentiate). The two sizeable rice balls contain black sesame and peanut filling. I prefer black sesame to peanut as the peanut one was sweeter.
There was also Chicken Soup served in individual bowls (6 bowls) but I forgot to take a photo of it. There were at least3 meaty chicken pieces in each bowl. They really don’t stinge on the ingredients, worth every cent.
